Our first full weekend in Arizona we took Bayley to Rattlesnake training. We were not sure what to expect... so when we got there, we literally saw 2 live diamondbacks in an open field. They told us to walk Bayley downwind so she could catch the smell of the snakes. The trainer also told us to get right up next to the snakes! The way it works is they put a shock collar on dogs and let them go right up and sniff a "de-fanged," 6 foot rattlesnake. Once the snake strikes, the trainer shocks the dog.... that is what is happening on the left hand picture. It's tough to see the snake.... rattlesnakes blend into the desert (and Maggie was too scared to get any closer)!
